California Academy of the Sciences in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco is an amazing discovery of which I cannot believe I was unaware of. It is in not only over 400,000 feet of physically impressive architecture but it is also the greenest place on the the planet committed to leading-edge research and educational outreach, exploring new and innovative ways to inspire the public with two main mission questions...

Speaking of preservation, and John and Gregg are off to Hawaii now to participate in another pull of invasive alien algae with the Malama Maunalua organization this weekend, as they have seen first hand what is happening to the reef outside their front door in the Maunalua region of southeast O'ahu.
California Academdy of the Sciences is also the largest public Platnium-rated building on the planet. We know this is no simple endeavor, as you probably know, we are in the process of building the first Platinum-rated (highest rated possible) LEED certified residence in Montecito, Ca. It features 2 1/2 acres of living roof, an expansive solar canopy and an extensive water reclamation system. The walls are insulated with recycled blue jeans that visitors can touch.
Have lunch in the aviary with birds of prey, gardens planted with native species and art installations by Maya Lin. Adults can also enjoy a 21 an over night at Nightlife on Thursday nights. Explore the museum with a drink in hand and hip music by popular DJ's. Sounds like a great place to plan your next birthday bash, since entrance is free to Nightlife within 7 days of your birthday.
If you have an affinity for gems, there are also special events that demonstrate lapidary, jade carving, silver wire jewelry and bead-stringing.
